Kisii Senator Chris Obure has dismissed speculations on social media that he is intending to challenge area Governor James Ongwae in 2017 elections.
Thursday’s post on a Facebook account which he has since dismissed as a pseudo account indicated that he was running for gubernatorial seat.
In a quick rejoinder, Obure urged county residents not to take the post seriously, denying any knowledge of the account.
“The account posting that I am interested in gubernatorial seat was opened by unknown person whose intention maybe to mislead people. I neither instructed him nor have any knowledge of his objectives,” Obure said.
“I therefore caution members of the public not to take anything serious posted in the page with the impersonator masquerading in my name,” he added.
Obure clarified that his official Facebook page bears the name 'Chris Obure-Senator Kisii County', deviating from the pseudo account which bared his three officials names - Chris Mogere Obure.
“I only know of one Facebook page by the name Chris Obure-Senator Kisii County. The other one is a pseudo account and I am considering recording a statement to ensure the culprit who is out to defame my name is dealt with,” he added.
The post had caused jitters among Kisii county residents with a number of them taking the opportunity to attack his personal character, labeling him as a greedy politician.
