Borabu MP Ben Momanyi has termed the series of meeting understandably convened by Kisii Senator Chris Obure ‘divisive’ and urged members of Gusii community to ignore them.
Mr Obure and a host of other leaders among them Charles Nyachae, Richard Tong’i and Richard Onyonka alongside Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi held a series of meetings which they dubbed ‘Omogusii’ Unity.
On Monday, Mr Momanyi urged Gusii residents to ignore Mr Obure and the team accusing them of lacking a clear agenda for the people of Gusii region.
“Sometimes I really get disappointed with the so called Omogusii unity meetings. They are divisive and Senator Obure must learn to involve all leaders whenever we have to discuss the issues pertaining our community,” he said.
“The meetings are not genuine and do not represent the interests of the entire community. It’s my wish that residents ignore them because they lack a clear agenda for our people. Many leaders among them Kisii and Nyamira Governors and a host of other MPs are never involved in such meetings,” added Mr Momanyi.
However, Obure who spoke on the phone to the reporter defended the meetings yet again saying they were healthy for pushing for ‘bargaining’ power of the community.
“I don’t see a problem when likeminded people meet to discuss an idea whose time has come. I have said that over time and I wish to say that we must find the best way to have a higher bargaining power. Our meetings are genuine,” said Obure.
