Mr Obure, a former close ally of Ongwae has made his gubernatorial bid public insisting that his intention to run for the seat was guided by ‘public outcry’ of alleged mismanagement of county resources.

Speaking on Tuesday in Kisii town, Obure said he was sure of victory and challenged Mr Ongwae’s team to desist from dragging his name unfairly to Goldenberg saga.

“I want to warn my brother Ongwae of a convincing victory over him in 2017 gubernatorial race. People are tired of his opaque leadership and I have offered myself to rescue our county,” he said.

“I encourage him to talk to his supporters to desist from dragging my name to the Goldenberg scandal. I have never been convicted in the court of law over the same and respect is very important. I know his team is panicking a lot but the people of Kisii will make a decision,” he said.

Obure said he was fit for the gubernatorial sit citing his achievements as Minister for Public works during the Grand coalition government.

“I opened several roads as a minister and my record as Bobasi MP is indisputable. I am ready to work and I know the people of Kisii will vote me. Ongwae cannot defeat me in a fair contest,” he said.
