Kisii Senator Chris Obure who is also the ODM regional chairperson may not, after all, ditch the opposition party, a source privy to the veteran politician’s political strategies has revealed.

Obure has been linked with growing rebellion towards the opposition party in the region and recently was in the front line pushing for a new party in Gusii to unite the community towards 2017 polls.

But the source who spoke on condition of anonymity since he is not authorized to speak on behalf of the lawmaker, the ‘hostile’ reception of Omogusii unity changed Obure’s intention of ditching ODM.

“He had good plans of uniting the community but the idea was received with hostility by residents. He had shown intentions of working with Jubilee government which even made it more complicated,” said the source.

“He is not leaving ODM because that is the only party he would remain relevant in Kenyan politics and keen to reconcile with the party’s leadership from the region. Trust me he is not leaving,” added the source moments after Obure was booed at a funeral in Nyamache.

When contacted on phone, Obure could neither deny nor agree with the claims but insisted on having a strong Omogusii force to bargain for top leadership.

“It’s not a must we have a single party to unite us. We can still do it from our respective parties. The most important thing is that we ensure the interest of our community is well catered for in the national stage,” he said.
