Kisii Senator Chris Obure has reportedly met KANU chairperson Gideon Moi to discuss possibilities of joining the independence party after falling out with his sponsorship party ODM.
The veteran politician had shown some interests of joining Ford People party before it was amalgamated to form Jubilee Party few days ago hence his frustrations.
According to a source privy to the information, Obure met Mr. Moi on Wednesday at a Nairobi Hotel and held serious discussions on possibilities of joining the party.
“I can confirm that Obure is warming to join KANU because he didn’t expect to see Ford People being dissolved. He was opposed to the idea even though he had shown intentions of working with government. He met Moi (Gideon) and they held a number of talks,” said the source.
“The party Secretary General Nick Salat was around and we expect a big announcement very soon. The discussion was successful and he had no option but to join the party,” added the source.
The source said that Mr. Obure’s decision was guided by perceived strong resistance to the Jubilee party by the area residents.
“Initially he had the idea of running on Ford People but it’s no longer there. The Jubilee Party’s reception in the area isn’t convincing,” the source said.
However, Mr. Obure could neither deny nor admit planning to move to Jubilee Party but maintained that it was too early to decide on political parties to be used.
“I am still an ODM member and in case there is a need to change that, I will let my people know,” he said.
