The planned exit of Kisii Senator Chris Obure from the Orange Democratic Movement will have no significant impact on the party’s strength in Kisii County, Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko has said.
Mr Obure who also doubles as the party’s Chairman in Kisii has been pushing for Omogusii unity together with Richard Onyonka, another ODM rebel and is believed to be eying Kisii Gubernatorial seat on a KANU ticket.
Apoko on Tuesday during a funeral in his backyard maintained that the party remained strong despite pressure from the unsettled Senator.
“I don’t think Obure’s exit from ODM will have an impact in terms of the party’s popularity in the region. He is free to go because as a party, our structures are still intact and no one will challenge that,” he said.
“His influence in the region has diminished due to his long stay in the political arena and as leaders, we no longer take him seriously and that is a guarantee from me,” he added.
Apoko also called for a total overhaul in the party’s leadership and called for inclusion of young people in the party’s positions.
“All ODM needs to do is to completely kick out these rebels and entrust more loyal young people in the party’s positions. The party otherwise remains strong than ever,” he said.
