A section of Kisii county residents has accused area Senator Chris Obure of belittling area Governor James Ongwae despite his poor record as Minister of roads and public works during the grand coalition government.
Mr Obure has openly expressed his gubernatorial ambitions despite both being staunch members of the Orange Democratic Movement and holding key party positions in Kisii County party structure.
On Wednesday, a number of social media users accused Obure of being greedy and questioned his development record as a minister to the entire Gusii region.
“Obure is just out to belittle Ongwae yet he is a non-performer. He was minister for Public works and yet he did nothing tangible across Gusii land. Now that Ongwae is doing, I really wonder why the Senator is being an impediment,” said Charles Onyancha.
“Ongwae was in TSC and did a wonderful job yet Obure was a minister and he ended up benefiting his own clan. We cannot allow someone to intimidate the Governor simply because he doesn’t belong to a political establishment,” added Cynthia Omare in Kisii County Facebook group.
However, Obure in a phone call with the reporter dismissed the allegations and insisted that he was entitled to political ambitions.
“I was a minister but at that time I was serving all Kenyans. I improved roads across the country and my record is clean. I have constitutional rights to go for any seat and I know I have a backing of many Kisii County residents,” he said.
