Senator Chris Obure of Kisii’s exit from Orange Democratic Movement will have no significant impact in terms of the party’s popularity, insists area ODM Youth League leader Erick Janganya.

Mr Obure on Friday insisted that he had moved out of the party for Jubilee despite having not tabled his resignation as ODM Kisii County Chairman.

And on Sunday at Kisii town, Janganya warned party rebels to submit their resignation letters or face excommunication from the party.

“There are two issues I want to be clear about. Obure’s influence is insignificant and cannot affect the ODM voting bloc. Instead, he will lose substantially and it could be a good exit from politics after all these years because he cannot win on a ticket which isn’t ODM,” he said.

“Again, he should resign together with his colleagues who purport that they have decamped. There is no need for continuing to be in a party which you don’t subscribe to its ideologies. They have little time to respond or we formally de-whip them from our party,” he added.

Senator Obure is expected to face Governor James Ongwae in the gubernatorial race and was one of the pioneers of the infamous Omogusii unity.
