The stage has been prepared for a major political showdown in 2017 after one of Kenya's veteran politicians, Oburu Odinga, made a major political announcement that is expected to shape up the political landscape of Bondo Constituency.
Oburu, who was nominated MP following his failed bid for the Siaya county gubernatorial seat has declared that he will be contesting for the Bondo Constituency parliamentary seat in 2017.
The announcement may not be good news for the incumbent, MP Gideon Ochanda, who may be forced to go back to the drawing board in his bid to defend the seat.
Oburu was Bondo MP for close to two decades, a seat he inherited from his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga following the later's death in 1994.
On Saturday, he said he will be making his political return in 2017 having failed in his gubernatorial bid in 2013 and that his opponents should brace for a bruising battle.
"A lot of things have been said about my candidature. I would like to set the record straight that I am going to contest for the Bondo parliamentary seat and not the gubernatorial seat next year," he said.
His opponents have been banking on his old age as a campaign tool but Bondo sub-county ODM Organizing Secretary George Mawere fired a warning shot that anybody writing off Oburu due to his age should do so at their own peril.
He added that Oburu's development record speaks for itself.
