Wako issued the warning following heightened reports of stolen vehicle parts in Kangundo town and its environs including Tala and Matungulu in Machakos County.

Speaking in his office in Kangundo town, during a press address, police OCPD stated that many matatu operators and private vehicle owners who park their vehicles around the town area have been reporting cases of stolen tires, lights and side mirrors and other important parts.

“The past one month has seen a series of cases of stolen vehicle parts. The latest being on Tuesday night where a lorry that had been parked in a petrol station had two hind tires removed by unknown people,” said Wako.

He cautioned the residents and traders who operate second hand shops without the right documents to show the right owners of the vehicle parts or they would face the law as accomplices.

“We have launched an operation to inspect all the second hand shops operating without right documents as they are encouraging the theft by buying the used vehicle parts without asking where the sellers got them from,” he said.

He however urged the vehicle owners to find a more secure parking space for their vehicles as officers hunt down the culprits.
