Speaking when he visited pipeline fire victims at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital on Friday evening, Nakuru police boss, Bernard Kioko, said that most fires which have been happening in the area are caused by illicit activities fuel siphoning.

He called on residents to desist from illegal oil siphoning and trading activities saying that they are putting their own lives at risk.

“The fire which broke out on Thursday was as a result of oil siphoning from an oil tanker which caught fire and several people got injured. People must stop siphoning fuel from tankers parking at Pipeline Estate because they are putting the lives of many people at risk. You must learn from what happened in Sachangwan and stop risking their lives,” said Kioko.

He also cautioned truck drivers who he said have been colluding with residents of Pipeline Estate to siphon fuel from tankers.

“Those drivers who have been colluding with these people to siphon fuel from the tankers must be put on notice and soon we will catch up with them,” he said.

In the Thursday night incident four people were seriously burned after a tanker caught fire as they were siphoning fuel from it.

Two of the victims were treated and discharged while two are still nursing injuries at the hospital.Pip
