Makongeni OCS, Samuel Khisa, has cautioned parents against letting their children who are on school holiday to loiter around the streets during the night.
Addressing members of the press from his office on Wednesday, Khisa warned that parents whose children will be caught loitering in the streets will be arraigned in court to answer on behalf of their underage children.
“Pupils and students who are on holiday have embraced a tendency of loitering in towns up to late in the night. Even young girls who are more vulnerable are found in towns after 8pm.,” said the officer.
The OCS explained that over the weekend, he arrested 30 girls and boys in the area pubs and restaurants and they spent the night at the Makongeni police station where they were later released in the morning hours.
He clarified that since the arrested minors cannot be charged in courts, the Administration Police officers go for their parents so that they can explain why their underage children were not under their parental care.
The OCS further lamented that the habit leads to bad behaviours as the boys can be tempted to engage in crimes and other societal evils like drinking alcohol while the young girls are exposed to rape.
