Having been nicknames a host of names, ODM leader and NASA presidential candidate has adopted ‘Joshua’, a name synonymous with his supporters ever since he was unveiled as presidential flag bearer.
Last month, Odinga promised to be a transitional president should he be elected in August and likened his role to that of Biblical Joshua.
And after weeks of names such as ‘Joshua Arap Mibei’ that was coined by Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, the veteran leader on Sunday graciously accepted the name.
“I want to officially today graciously accept my nickname Joshua. It is Biblical and I am happy,” said Odinga at Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi.
Odinga who had submitted his papers to IEBC added: “I am ready to take you to Canaan, a land of milk and honey where there will be equity to all Kenyans.”
With only three months to elections, IEBC has officially allowed politicians seeking elective seats to commence their campaigns.
Being keen to beat President Kenyatta, the veteran opposition leader has for years questioned the track record of Jubilee government in the last four years.
