Opposition leader Raila Odinga has warned the West of ‘legitimizing’ electoral fraud adding that his quest to reform IEBC will not be ‘cowed’.
In an apparent reference to President Donald Trump’s special envoy to Kenya, Robert Godec, Odinga accused both US and European administrations of siding with Jubilee government.
“They legitimized fraud and the Supreme Court vindicated me. I hear them now saying they have confidence that October elections will go on,” said a furious Odinga.
A fortnight ago, Godec warned politicians against sabotaging elections by issuing ‘unrealistic’ demands adding that the US will not hesitate to take actions including imposing travel bans.
But Odinga maintained at his Bondo rally on Friday that October elections will stand cancelled until ‘radical’ reforms as instigated in IEBC.
“We expected them to push for reforms after court ruling and they are now telling us to go to polls. That is exactly what Jubilee is saying and I wonder the difference between the two,” he said.
US led observer mission groups among them Carter center have given October 26th polls a clean bill of health, despite Odinga’s last minute withdrawal over reforms.
