A convoy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was blocked by enthusiast supporters on Thursday moments after closing Lake Region Health and Investment Summit in Kisii University.
The incident comes barely a week after angry residents pelted stones on a section of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s convoy during his Gusii tour.
Having skipped engaging in politics at the summit, Odinga insisted that he would tour the region some day and address political issues.
“Today I only came to discuss health issues and that was my prime matter. I will not indulge in politics,” he said in his closing remarks.
But the veteran opposition leader was forced to make a stopover Kisii town after ODM supporters blocked his procession demanding that he addresses them.
“I thank you for remaining in ODM. We have a development agenda for Gusii people. Jubilee is full of tricksters whom you should avoid,” he said.
The ODM leader was accompanied by Governors John Nyagarama (Nyamira), James Ongwae (Kisii), Cyprian Awiti (Homabay) and several other ODM leaders.
