Opposition leader Raila Odinga has broken his silence of the apprehension of youthful Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino.

The outspoken MP was arrested on Monday over alleged incitement and disrespect to the Head of State during a rally at Kawangwae suburbs.

But Odinga has been angered with the decision by the police to re-arrest Owino, minutes after securing cash bail of Sh500, 000 on Wednesday evening.

“The National Super Alliance is concerned by the decision to re-arrest Babu Owino this afternoon. The state is resorting to persecution, banditry and torture tactics.

“There is no justification whatsoever why the state did not consolidate his cases and present them in court at once. This is an act of intimidation to Members of Parliament,” read Odinga’s statement.

Protests ensued in the Nairobi’s CBD for the better part of Wednesday evening with NASA supporters demanding his immediate release.

It couldn’t not be however established immediately why the outgoing SONU leader was re-arrested by the police.
