In what is perceived to be the third and final liberation in the country by the opposition, ODM leader Raila Odinga has cleverly dubbed August elections as ‘Nane Nane’, a term referring to the date and month of the elections.
During their fight for pluralism, Odinga was part of the group that antagonized establishment which led to multiparty democracy.
And in reference to a huge rally in 7th of July in 1991, Odinga said the August elections will usher in the last and final liberation of Kenya from ‘economic quagmire’.
“We are having Nane Nane coming soon and it is upon you to come out and vote for change. The mood is positive and this is the only time,” he told Busia residents.
He added: “This will not be an ordinary day and that is why we should make it special. We have an opportunity to send Jubilee home.”
In what is viewed to be his last real chance for presidency after three unsuccessful outing, Odinga will be battling with President Uhuru Kenyatta in August.
Under the NASA agreement, the veteran leader will serve as a transitional president should he be elected.
