The planned three day retreat in Nairobi for Kisumu County Government has met criticism from the county deputy governor Ruth Odinga. Ruth said there is no development for the people on the ground and holding a retreat is a bad idea. She said the county has failed to deliver promises made to the people and holding such meetings will receive resistance from the county residents. “Our image as the county leaders is bad on the ground and if we go ahead with this retreat then we will be condemned further,” she said. Odinga said she had advised Governor Jack Ranguma to shelve the retreat that is scheduled to kick off on Saturday at the Kenya School of Government. She argued that the county is witnessing financial constraints and it will not be in order to further use public resources to hold the retreat. Addressing the press in Kisumu, Odinga said the limited resources at the county should be used prudently to uplift the welfare of Kisumu county residents. She made it categorical that she is against the retreat, said to act as a bonding session for the two levels of county government, the executive and the assembly to be able to unite for service delivery for the people. The County Secretary Humphrey Nakitare had dispatched letters to all the MCAs, county executive members and their chief officers and are expected to depart via air on Friday. However, a section of the MCAs are in support of the retreat noting that the county must put its house in order to be able to perform. South West Kisumu Ward representative Joseph Abiola said the retreat is healthy and aimed at propelling the development growth of the county.
