Opposition leader Raila Odinga says pioneers Governors would achieve the spirits of devolution should they be given time.

In his rare support to Governors, the ODM leader also questioned the integrity of MCAs, whom he accused of dragging county bosses.

He was speaking in Nyeri on Monday during the burial of Governor Nderitu Gachagua, who died in a London hospital.

“Devolution is a concept which we believe can work if we respect the constitution. These governors are the first in office and whenever a new thing starts, they are a bit of struggling,” he said.

Odinga, who has been a fierce critic of Jubilee government over devolution added: “MCAs are just like MPs. They have powers to oversight but haven’t done what we expected of them.”

And his remarks could be reprieve to dozens of Governors who are still struggling to put their counties in order with persistent opposition from both the senate and county assemblies.
