ODM leader Raila Odinga has dismissed claims that the Kenyatta and Odinga families are holding the country ransom due to their political rivalries.
For the second time, Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta will be meeting in the presidential contest barely five years after another epic battle in which Uhuru on.
When appearing at the presidential debate on Monday night, Odinga insisted that the two had a right to contest in any election given the goodwill of Kenyans.
“Some of us sprung into politics in our own right. I don’t think it will be fair to say that Uhuru and I are favoured by our fathers’ legacy,” he said.
Odinga added: “All of us have a right to contest and provided that we can manage to do that, I don’t see any point of contention. We are not holding the country at ransom.”
While Uhuru’s father served as Founding president, Odinga’s father, Oginga Odinga, was the country’s first Vice President and a long term opposition leader.
