ODM leader Raila Odinga has dismissed date set by IEBC chairman for conducting fresh elections following nullification of Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
On Monday, Wafula Chebukati slated October 17th as the date for fresh elections, which falls within the constitutional timeline of sixty days.
But at Viongozi Center in Nyamira on Tuesday, Odinga said the commission has no mandate to announce new dates with consulting stakeholders.
“IEBC has not invited stakeholders and various players before setting a date. That cannot work at all,” said Odinga.
He added:”We have serious thorny issues that must be addressed before we talk of an election. This is a national matter that should be dealt with seriousness.”
Moments after the nullification of elections, Odinga issued a list of six people within the secretariat who he demanded that should resign.
He is campaigning in Nyamira town, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii town and Oyugis in his first campaign outside Nairobi.
