ODM leader Raila Odinga has dismissed claims that he is advocating for secession should he lose in presidential elections slated October.
During the controversial outcome of August 8 elections, David Ndii, a man tasked to advise NASA on economic issues, sparked a debate in which he called for split of Kenya into two.
And on Tuesday, Odinga distanced himself from the debate adding that Ndii has rights to express his thoughts freely.
“I have not called for secession and that is my stand. If he [Ndii] is calling for that, then he has a right to do so because we are living in a democratic nation,” he said.
He added:”I am of the opinion that project Kenya will still work if we are dedicated to do so. We are only advocating for transparency in running of government businesses.”
A defiant Ndii called for separation of the country, insisting that post colonial governments have discriminated several parts of the country for years.
Nevertheless, it is not yet clear whether Ndii has submitted his petition to the African Union for consideration.
