Three of the famous ‘seven bearded sisters’ who shaped the country’s politics by fighting autocratic regime of retired president Daniel Moi have now endorsed NASA leader Raila Odinga for top leadership.
Synonymous for their resistance in parliament in early 80s, the seven youthful MPs some who have since deceased were labeled ‘bearded’ by the then Attorney General due to their young age and rebellious nature.
They included Koigi Wamwere, Abuya Abuya, James Orengo, Mwachegu wa Machofi, Chibule wa Tsuma, Wasike Ndobi and Lawrence Sifuna.
With Wamwere having decamped from Jubilee few weeks ago and James Orengo consistently supporting Odinga, Abuya Abuya became the latest to join the bandwagon.
On Wednesday, the former radical Kitutu East (now Kitutu Masaba) MP threw his weight behind his former left-wing politics colleague Mr. Odinga.
“I am happy to unite with my comrades and the struggle must continue,” said Abuya when he was interdicted by the current Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire.
He further said: “I have come to finish what we started several years ago. We must soldier on and mobilize our people in this crucial liberation.”
Understandably, the Seven Bearded Sisters spent most of their life either in parliament or in exile as they attempted to put the then government into toes.
Of the seven, Orengo has remained the most consistent and eloquent having served in different capacities and as a minister.
