President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party was yet again leapfrogged in two major by elections in populous Gusii region on Tuesday.
Despite claiming a major state from Nyamira and Kisii Counties in two successive Presidential elections, Raila Odinga’s NASA maintains that IEBC rigged in favour of Uhuru.
At Kitutu Chache South, Ford Kenya’s Richard Onyonka clinched the seat having garnered 10,122 votes against his closest challenger Antony Kibagendi of Jubilee who scored 5074 votes.
Fundamentally, Odinga had thrown his weight behind Onyonka despite ODM fielding Samuel Omwando, who emerged third with 4324 votes.
“We have fought a good fight despite being many in the race but fortunately, we have shown that NASA is dominant in Gusii family,” said Onyonka moments after the famous victory.
In Bogichora ward, Nyamira County, ODM candidate George Abuga won the seat having garnered 3500 votes with Jubilee candidates, Charles Onchiri coming a distant fifth with 419 votes.
“I dedicate this victory to Odinga at this trying moment. We shall forever keep pushing for electoral reforms,” Abuga said.
Jubilee par6y had put spirited campaigns in the two seats with Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i spearheading the campaigns.
