Opposition's NASA alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga has thanked his Third-Way Alliance counterpart Ekuru Aukot for lending him a hand and enabling his side win in the presidential petition.
Speaking at a press conference at the Supreme court minutes after the 6-judge bench headed by Chief Justice David Maraga granted NASA's wish and nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta's win Friday, Odinga thanked the leader attributing the win to him.
''I want to thank my worthy competitor cum ally Ekuru Aukot for taking sides with the will of Kenyans and helping us stop an unjustly elected leadership from trampling on the nation for the second time,'' said Odinga before passing the baton to Aukot who also took the opportunity to welcome the court's verdict.
Aukot who had taken sides with Odinga saying that he shares in the opposition complains with regards to the election on his side termed the win as what the nation was restlessly waiting for.
He maintained that IEBC has been rendered unreliable stressing on the need to have a different body conduct the re-match as was directed by the court.
''IEBC has already proven that it cannot be entrusted with such a sensitive task and we have to bring on board another body,'' said Aukot.
The court's decision was reached after only 2 of the 7 judges (Justice Jackton Ojwang' and Lady Justice Njoki Ndung'u) sided with the respondent.
