Opposition leader Raila Odinga is set for vote rich Meru region despite locals voting overwhelmingly for Jubilee administration in 2013.
Although the region still has a soft spot on President Uhuru Kenyatta, NASA strategists have earmarked it as pone of the possible tossups ahead of August polls.
And barely a week after Jubilee points man Kiraitu Murungi was booed by angry locals, Odinga will on Thursday make several stopovers in Maua, Chuka and Meru town as vote hunting intensifies across the country.
Among topical issues that Odinga has addressed before which seems to be resonating well with local sis poor remuneration of Miraa and tea farmers from the region.
“Meru is a swing region and I want people to watch the space. We know what our people want and we must take our agenda there,” ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire said.
“Jubilee does not have a stronghold and Meru will be one of the upset in August. Kenyans are generally tired with them,” he added.
NASA is working closely with former minister Kirugi M’ Mukindia and Isaiah Kindiki to woo voters from the larger Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties.
