ODM leader Raila Odinga contends that he only lost once in his previous three attempts to run for presidency, with just a fortnight to other presidential elections.

When Kenya goes for August elections, Odinga will become the first candidate to have run many elections without success.

During the presidential debate on Monday evening, Odinga only admitted losing 1997 election where he emerged third, behind Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi.

“I only recall losing once in presidential elections in 1997 which I think Kibaki won but was denied by Moi through rigging.

“These other elections were just robbery. They all know that I won fairly and rigged me using their crooked systems,” he said.

It is only in 2002 Odinga chose to support eventual winner, Kibaki, after which he ran against him in 2007, an election he maintains that he won.

Closer in 2013, Odinga yet again ran against president Uhuru Kenyatta, who election victory was upheld by Supreme Court following a petition that was launched by defunct Cord.
