Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga has challenged residents of former Nyanza province to give him easy time by guarding votes against the region so that he can invade Jubilee strongholds ahead of 2017 polls.
Mr Odinga was addressing thousands of youths from Gusii region slightly a week after Deputy President William Ruto visited the region.
The veteran politician also urged youths to apply for National Identification Cards and subsequently register as voters ahead of 2017 polls.
“This is my home and you all understand that. I should not be coming here now and then to campaign for the presidency. I am one of your own and you should campaign for me so that we can increase votes in our basket,” he said.
“It’s your responsibility to allow me to go to other regions where I have a major contest with Jubilee. Nyanza alone has many votes and this time, we want many people to register and vote in numbers. Youths should also be mobilised to apply for IDs and register as voters,” he added.
He also urged area leaders to minimise conflicts among themselves and assured residents of free and fair nominations in party primaries.
“I do not want to hear leaders fighting amongst themselves. The party will hold free and fair nominations and that is a guarantee from me,” he said.
