Former Prime Minister is said to be in touch with Tanzanian President John Pombe over continued detention of businessman Don Bosco Gichana in an Arusha prison.
But the high level talks are believed to be done in high secrecy due to multinational nature of the case, reveals Senator Janet Ong’era.
Gichana, who came into limelight when he donated a Sh20m hammer vehicle for Odinga’s campaign in 2007, is been sort for extradition to US over alleged money laundering and fraud.
“I want to assure you that this is not just a usual case. Odinga is in talks with President Pombe and the discussion is being done at an advanced level,” Ong’era said on Sunday.
She added: “We expect results and hopefully he will be set free. We are working around to clock to see whether he can be tried at home.”
Until his apprehension in 2013, Gichana was an aspiring Kitutu Chache South MP, a seat currently held by Richard Onyonka.
Further, Ong’era said Kalonzo Musyoka’s visit to Tanzania in 2015 raised eyebrows within the US government, an interested party in the case.
