Following the sudden death of former Minister for Housing and MP for Malava Constituency, Soita Shitanda, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cord leader, Raila Odinga have sent their condolence messages to his family.
President Kenyatta said that the late former minister was both a patriotic and committed leader who was always devoted to the country.
“Death has robbed us one of the loyal sons of this country who served our country with dedication,” Kenyatta said.
Cord leader Raila Odinga said in his statement that he was distraught by the death of Shitanda. He noted they both had served in Parliament in 1998 as well as in the Cabinet during the reign of the grand coalition government. He termed Shitanda as a dedicated hard working leader who represented his people with diligence and total dedication.
“On behalf of the Cord fraternity, the ODM Party, my family, I express our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, relatives and the people of Malava and Kakamega County as a whole for the loss. Words alone cannot express how we feel for the loss of Honourable Shitanda. The country has lost a leader,” said Raila.
The former parliamentarian passed on at 56 years of age. His family said he had been sick for some time before getting admitted to Nairobi Hospital where he took his last breath on Tuesday afternoon.
