Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Sunday began a two-day retreat in Mombasa for members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Parliamentary Group (PG).

The party's Director of Communications Philip Etale, confirmed the meeting, saying it would be presided over by Odinga at the Flamingo Beach Resort in North Coast.

The meeting which will end on Monday, June 18, will see the party leader discuss issues regarding Building Bridges initiative which he alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta initiated after March 9, handshake.

“He (Odinga) will be seeking members’ support for the initiative which is aimed at uniting the country and solving the problems facing Kenyans and the Nation at large,” said Etale in a statement on Sunday.

“This (retreat) is pursuant to a resolution of the NEC at the Lake Elementaita Lodge on the 8th of May this year where it was agreed that a joint meeting of the two organs of the party be held as soon as possible to allow the Party Leader Raila Odinga talk to them about the Building Bridges initiative and his meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta,” added Etale.

The retreat is expected to be graced by ODM deputy party leaders Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya alongside the Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Odinga arrived in Mombasa on Sunday where he met Joho and his Deputy William Kingi.
