Kisumu senator Anyang’ Nyong’o has accused Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma of scheming to derail Cord Principal Raila Odinga’a presidential bid in the August elections by sabotaging the ongoing voter registration exercise.
At a media briefing held on Wednesday in Kisumu, Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga, said that Governor Ranguma’s team was causing havoc at various registration centres by dishing out money, thus throwing the registration exercise into confusion.
“I can’t understand how in one day a governor can spend Sh1 million in seven sub counties while we know his salary is not more than Sh1 million, where is this money coming from?” asked Nyong’o.
“This must be ill gotten money from somewhere, and that source is what we want the government to reveal to the people of Kisumu,” he added.
Ruth Odinga, who is a sister to the former prime minister joined in the talk, urging Ranguma to stop being a lone ranger and join other politicians.
“And I’m appealing to him to stop walking on his own, alone and join the team which he chose and said he could actually chair as the coordinator.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Governor Ranguma rubbished the claims, calling them deviatory tactics.
Those allegations are unnecessary diversions, we are at a critical stage in the voter mobilization process, every minute counts, for us to win the elections and ensure Raila Odinga becomes the next president.
It is not lost to many that Senator Nyong’o and Ruth Odinga have shown interest in running for Ranguma’s gubernatorial seat.
