Opposition leader Raila Odinga has yet again hit at US and UK over their silence following resignation of commissioner Roselyn Akombe, few days to October 26th polls.

Although he has since withdrawn out of the race, Odinga claimed that the two countries are doing grave damage to their standing in Kenya and Africa by ‘abetting naked power grab by Uhuru Kenyatta’.

“US and UK have not spoken since the confession by Roselyn Akombe that the country is not ready to hold free and fair elections. She even talked about fear of some officials,” he said on Thursday.

In what she called persistent external interference from the outsiders and death threats, Akombe bowed out of the commission last Tuesday.

A fortnight ago, a group of Western envoys led by US Ambassador Robert Godec, warned the opposition against its several demands on IEBC and even threatened to impose travel bans on them.

“Actually, even Wafula Chebukati and Akombe have confirmed our fears that the elections would not be free and fair hence my withdrawal by the two nations still remain silent,” he said.

Moments after Akombe’s withdrawal, Chebukati said he would not guarantee all players a free and fair election given the current political environment.
