The struggle to clinch Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket has intensified and some aspirants are accusing the party’s National Election Board (NEB) of partiality.
Those affected including close associates to party Chief Raila Odinga have questioned the criterion applied in picking 5 constituency election panelist. According to the Standard, several aspirants have complained of being forced to work with strangers and allies to their rivals.
Kisumu County is the most affected considering the dominance of ODM in region that is Raila’s backyard. Raila Odinga’s brother Dr. Oburu Odinga accused MP Gideon Ochanda of having friends on the panel.
"It is funny how Ochanda is very comfortable with the elections board because he feels favoured. All those on the panel are his personal friends," Dr oginga said as quoted by Nation.
On his side, Ochanda also faulted the unpreparedness of the board to handle nominations. He said that aspirants ought to have been briefed about the process and materials to be used.
"There is a level of unpreparedness in terms of funding the nomination. The county election board should come out clearly and talk about the issues they are sure about, not what they are being told by individuals from the head office," said Mr. Ochanda.
