Nominated Member of Parliament Oburu Odinga has disclosed why he opted out of the race for the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) slot.

ODM party had considered to nominate Oburu for the EALA post, a decision that the Majority leader in the National Assembly, Aden Duale, strongly criticised and accused the opposition side of nepotism.

Odinga, who spoke in Mombasa, Monday, said he was qualified to vie for the seat despite him being Raila’s brother but decided to quit so as to concentrate on campaigning for his brother.

“The reason why I withdrew is because I want to concentrate on the campaigns for my brother who is the presidential candidate for NASA and I want to coordinate the activities in my region where I come from, Nyanza and Western provinces,” said Oburu.

He added, “I will be doing that and I don’t have any time to do other activities. What I also want to do is to reogarnize myself to do other things because I’m planning to retire from active politics not right now yet. But because of that I would like to have time to reorganize my own things, my own business and think of the future.”

EALA is the legislative organ of the East African Community.
