Lawyer James Orengo will be the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, a position he was proposed to hold by NASA Parliamentary Group meeting on Wednesday.

With Jubilee team already filled their respective house responsibilities, NASA was yet to reach consensus among all parties that constitute the coalition.

But a meeting chaired by NASA leader Raila Odinga and his co-principals settled on Orengo, who will be tasked to deputize Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya.

Within the corridors of justice, Orengo, 69, has represented the coalition in clandestine cases with the most recent being the Supreme Court petition that challenged victory of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Although his relationship with Odinga has been hot and cold for many years, they have however had uninterrupted cordial relationship for a decade now.

Sprung into national limelight in 70s, Orengo has been part of politicians who stood firm in quest for justice during the fight for pluralism in 90s.

He has served as member of KANU, Ford Kenya, SDP and now ODM in his four decades in the legal and political arena.
