Opposition leader Raila Odinga has rubbished claims that he was favouring specific gubernatorial candidates ahead of nominations for the 2017 general elections.

Speaking at a Naivasha hotel on Monday, Mr Odinga said reports circulating that there are preferred candidates in the party are malicious and that everyone in the party will be given a fair chance to run for their position of choice.

During the meeting, the governors urged the party leader to embrace impartiality during the process.

After the meeting, Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya confirmed in a presser that they had discussed the issue of coalition and nominations, saying that they were negotiating with other parties for a possible partnership ahead of 2017 polls.

“The party leader briefed us on the issue of a possible coalition and we are impressed by the work he has done ahead of the coming elections,” he said.

Siaya governor Cornel Rasanga is among the leaders that have accused a section of ODM top brass of supporting their competitors ahead of the the nominations battle.
