Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Sunday took ODM campaigns to Raila Odinga’s Nyanza home turf as calls to have locals elect ODM aspirants increased.

For the last few months, Odinga has been facing unfamiliar challenge from a host of independent candidates who threatens to down size a party that has dominated Kenyan politics for a decade.

In yet another shape contrast, Odinga’s wife, Ida Odinga recently urged locals to elect leaders of their choice, contrary to the opposition leader’s wishes.

And Joho challenged ODM supporters to give Odinga enough ‘foot soldiers’ to strengthen his representation in parliament.

“We all agree that Raila will be president given the shaping political dynamics,” said the popular governor.

He added: “You cannot make him president without giving him enough soldiers in parliament. We need a strong presidency that is guarded by a fully packed parliament.”

Independent candidates most of whom who disputed ODM primaries are giving ODM aspirants sleepless nights.

Those risking the wrath of voters include Milly Odhiambo (Mbita), John Mbadi (Suba South) and Homabay Governor Cyprian Awiti.
