Opposition leader Raila Odinga now wants the government to significantly reduce maize prices to a level that can be ‘felt’ by ordinary people.
Despite top leadership assuring Kenyans of significant drop of prices of basic goods, many Kenyans are yet to be convinced by the government commitment towards affecting the same.
Sarcastically, on Sunday Odinga demanded that the government explains the whereabouts of Sh90 maize flour that the government had subsidized following acute shortage few weeks ago, which he claimed could only be found at State House.
“I hear that the government has subsidized maize flour but I am yet to see it. Have you seen it?” asked Odinga in a fully to capacity Jacaranda grounds on Sunday.
The NASA flag bearer added: “Maybe that maize flour is only found at State House. Nothing has changed and Kenyans continues buying basic goods at unimaginable prices.”
Last week, the government subsidized maize flour following a national outcry over hiking of basic goods in the market.
But the opposition team still insists that the announcement was a mere ‘Public Relations’ exercise that was meant to hoodwink locals.
