Political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi now wants ODM leader Raila Odinga to boycott August polls as a tactic to avoid and impeding ‘heavy’ defeat.

With the opposition outfit NASA still weighing options on presidential flag bearer, allies of Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula have openly differed on the choice of the candidate.

A report leaked to the media had indicated that Mr. Odinga was the most preferred candidate among the quartet.

“NASA is likely to break and that would be an embarrassment to Mr. Odinga, an accomplished politician who cannot win on his own,” said Ngunyi in his latest projection.

The controversial analyst added: “The only option is to boycott elections as an avenue to pave him more time to unite the opposition which is running out of time.”

Understandably, the four principals are set to go for a three days retreat in Mombasa starting from Monday, in a meeting that would pave avenue for advanced talks within the coalition.

Protests marred Kakamega town on Monday after Mudavadi’s supporters thronged in streets to oppose creation of a Chief Minister to accommodate the former Vice President.
