NASA leader spent the better part of his day in Siaya in a funeral of one of his supporters who lost his life during his return to the country from the United States.
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.
In a solemn expression of his sadness, Odinga punctuated his speech by launching into a popular Luo gospel song entitled ''Wan wadhi ka Yesu.''
The mourners present joined in the singing which appeared to have caught them by surprise.
Mr. Odinga arrived in Nyanza on Friday evening and was received by Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.
It has been quite some time since the veteran opposition leader was seen singing in publicly.
His biggest political opponents, Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, broke into a song during their inauguration on Tuesday 28 last month.
Singing has been used by political leaders to show that they are human and to connect with ordinary people.
Barrack Obama famously sang ''Amazing Grace'' in South Carolina in a funeral.
