Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has broken his silence on party rebels, urging the Registrar of political parties to fasten deregistration process and subsequently have them subjected to a buy election.
If the deal goes through, the country will witness a series of by elections moments to the general elections, a scenario that was witnessed in 1966 when several MPs were subjected to a by election after ditching KANU for Kenya People’s Union (KPU).
Odinga who was addressing people living with disability at the Orange house eon Tuesday said the rebels had no option other than facing the electorate.
“Political Parties Act is very clear and we should not question it. When you decamp a certain party, you must face people to seek a fresh mandate. We want the process to be fastened,” he said.
“Those who were nominated by ODM should be kicked out so that we appoint someone who toes to the party line,” added Odinga.
Over 10 elected people among them Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya were de-whipped by the ODM Part during the national Governing Council (NGC) meeting at Bomas.
