NASA supporters had a rough time on Monday morning moments before President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tour to vote rich Gusii region.
With a cumulative 850, 000 votes, both NASA and Jubilee had lined up an intensive voter mobilization in the region ahead of August elections.
While NASA had failed to secure Gusii stadium on Monday, Uhuru Kenyatta’s team managed to secure the venue, leading to NASA’s cancellation of the rally.
But during morning hours, police in Kisii dispersed NASA supporters who were mounting burners and posters despite Uhuru’s intended visit.
Confrontations broke out when NASA supporters started engaging police in running battles, leading to the decision of the police to descend on them.
However, police managed to bring calm in town moments before Jubilee supporters joined the battle to secure the town ahead of Uhuru’s tour.
Despite being a perceived NASA stronghold, Jubilee supporters took control over the South Nyanzan town, and were later addressed by a jovial president who made entry in afternoon hours.
