Having read a rare speech written in English, Odinga hailed his fellow multiparty democracy fighters and vowed to have them compensated should he win in August.

But he thrilled the crowd when he sang ‘Nikiitwa, nitaitika’, a gospel song that is often sung in political gatherings when people are preparing for leadership.

On the stage, he was joined by three youths who helped him fine tune the song as the enthusiastic crowd joined.
