With less than three months to August polls, President Uhuru Kenyatta risks being a one term president should a survey done by NIS stand.
Arguably, the race remains tight with both opposition leader Raila Odinga and Kenyatta working around the clock to tilt votes in their favour.
While Kenyatta is banking on his performance in the infrastructural, education, energy among others for reelection, the opposition team has questioned the high cost of living in the country.
“It is a tight race and at the moment, Odinga leads with 48 percent while the president trails him at 48 percent,” said a source privy to State House operations.
The source added: “The government is now focused to reduce the gap and force a run off which is likely to be the case.”
In 2013, Kenyatta managed to meet the constitutional threshold by scoring 50 percent votes and managing at least 25percent from half of the counties to avoid a run-off.
But the latest research done by pollsters IPSO Synovate shows Kenyatta will score 47 percent while his challenger, Raila Odinga will manage 42 percent of votes.
