Opposition leader Raila Odinga would serve as one term president should he win August elections if at all he adheres to the details in the MoU that brought together five parties.
On Thursday, Odinga was unveiled as opposition outfit NASA’s presidential flag bearer ending speculations of several months.
In what he termed as transitional and transformative presidency, Odinga would have the fourth and final stab at presidency and would serve one term just like former South African President Nelson Mandela.
“I will be a transitional president. I am Joshua who will help you cross River Jordan,” said Odinga in reference to Biblical Joshua.
The ODM party leader added: “I will serve for one term and help put things in order. I will handover to other generations.”
In a continent where leaders rarely leave power, Mandela, a freedom icon and who served 27-yrs jail term in Robin Island, served only as a one term president before retiring in 1999.
Under NASA deal, Odinga would be president and Kalonzo Musyoka would deputize him. Musalia Mudavadi would serve as Premier Secretary and would be deputized by Moses Wetangula and Isaac Rutto.
