ODM leader Raila Odinga claims president Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party cannot impeach him as president should he be elected in October.
Earlier, President Kenyatta had warned that he will use his majority in parliament to ensure Odinga is shown exit door.
But in his address to the press on Monday, Odinga said Jubilee lacks super majority in both houses to impeach a president, a claim that was also supported but Senator Moses Wetangula.
“Jubilee does not have super majority to impeach a president. They need two-thirds of legislators to authenticate such a motion in the house.
“These are signs of desperations and I want to assure him that it cannot happen. They may be having majority but do not have requisite for impeachment,” he said.
On whether his presidency would be exposed to numerous challenges, Wetangula said Odinga’s presidency can survive such as that of President Barack Obama in his second term.
“Barrack Obama did not have enough numbers Senate and Congress but he was able to administer easily. This statements by Jubilee shows how unfocused they are,” he said.
Tentatively, for such, motion to pass though, Jubilee needs at least 232 MPs of the 349 in National assembly and 45 senators of the 67.
