Barely a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta had a day to forget following hostilities he faced in several regions in his Gusii tour, opposition leader Raila Odinga will on Thursday visit the vote rich region.
Uhuru was forced to periodically cut short his speech during stop overs at Viongozi Centre and Nyanturago with a hostile crowd accusing him of discrimination.
Later on Thursday last week, riots were witnessed in Kisii town as angry opposition supporters burnt Jubilee Party T-shirts while chanting opposition slogans.
While Odinga is only scheduled to address final day of Lake Basin Health Investment Conference, it is however not clear whether he will indulge in political issues after his mission.
“Our Lake Basin Health Investment Conference will be closed by Hon Raila Odinga. He will address key issues pertaining the milestone we have made in Health Sector,” read a statement from the office of Kisii County governor James Ongwae.
The Conference which brings together counties from former Nyanza and Western region was to be opened by Health Cabinet Secretary Cleophas Mailu in Wednesday.
During his tour in Gusii region, Kenyatta urged the community to champion his reelection for more progress.
“I have done little I could and I know I can do more if given chance in August,” said Mr. Kenyatta.
With only five months to elections, Jubilee strategists have identified Gusii region as one of tossup counties to bank on for August.
