Supporters allied to opposition leader Raila Odinga's NASA and president Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee clashed in Nyakoe market ahead of Tuesday's mini poll.
The two candidates will face off in a competition that has attracted national interest in Kitutu Chache South parliamentary contest.
Trouble started when Jubilee supporters supporting Antony Kibagendi started chanting anti- Odinga songs precipitating to a quick response from outgoing MP Richard Onyonka.
For around an hour, the market was turned to a battle ground between the two rival groups with each confident of a landslide victory.
However, normalcy was restored when Onyonka and Moses Wetangula toured the region and subsequently appealing for calm.
The parliamentary race would yet again show a tough contest between Jubilee and NASA in a region that President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party maintains it's a swing region.
While Jubilee is backing Kibagendi, NASA has thrown hands behind Ford Kenya's Onyonka despite having candidates allied to the coalitions other affiliates.
