Barely a day after electoral body IEBC set October 26th as precise date for presidential poll repeat, a legal advisor to one of the leading candidates has dismissed it.
Initially, IEBC had settled on October 17th, a move that was highly criticized by Raila Odinga led NASA, which is calling for institutional reforms in the poll agency.
And Prof Makau Mutua now wants the poll date to be yet again adjusted to November 1st, the last realistic constitutional timeline set for elections.
“Poll date must be adjusted to November 1st and not October 26 as Wafula Chebukati has announced,” said Matua, a close ally of Odinga.
He further said:”Every day, hour, minute and second is needed for a credible, transparent and verifiable poll.”
A detailed Supreme Court ruling found the poll body culpable of numerous irregularities and illegalities that led to cancellation of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
On his part, Odinga has given a number of ‘irreducible minimums’ that he wants put in place for him to participate in an election.
